As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, people around the world were terrified. Everything that was taken for granted came to a halt, and people began to rethink the ordinary. Many things in daily life were converted to non-face-to-face, and the ‘Metaverse’, a virtual world utilizing new technologies, emerged during this time. To me, the Metaverse did not seem like a ‘new world’ that would be realized in the future, but rather a kind of ‘escape’ created by another human desire. I ended up creating the ‘Meta Twelve Zodiac Signs’ for the well-being of this escape, the Metaverse.
코로나 팬데믹 상황이 펼쳐지고 전세계 사람들은 공포에 떨었다. 모든 당연하다고 여겨지는 것들이 멈추게 되고 사람들은 평범한 것에 대해 다시 생각해보게 되었다. 일상의 많은 것들이 비대면으로 전환되었고, 이를 틈타 신기술을 활용한 가상세계인 ‘메타버스(Metaverse)’가 대두하였다. 나에게 있어 메타버스는 앞으로 실현될 ‘신세계’라기 보다는 그저 인간의 또다른 욕망이 빚어낸 일종의 ‘도피처’로 밖에 보이지 않았다. 나는 이 도피처인 메타버스의 안녕을 위한 ‘메타십이지신’을 제작하기 이르렀다.
